Unusal and Intresting Photos Pt. 2

I picked this photo because I like how the you can see the girls silhouette against the burning building which makes it very dramatic. I found this photo in the Photojournalist of the Year (smaller market) category this photo got 2nd place in that category. The photographer got a very good angle of what was happening and its also a good example of the rule of thirds which caught my eye. When the judges were picking these photos I think this photo caught their eye because how the photographer did not just capture a tragic event they also captured the emotion. To take this picture the photographer had to have good timing and angle.

I chose this photo because there is a lot of action going on and it looks like the football player is flying. I got this photo from the Sports action category and this picture got 3rd place. The photographer caught my eye bye capturing the football player in flight. I think the judges put this in 3rd place because there's no simplicity in this photo but they like what's going on in the picture. The photographer probably had to get to the players level to take the picture.

I chose this photo because it looks like the girl is looking through a window and you can see the reflection on what's happening outside. I got this photo from the Local Portrait and Personality category and this picture got 2nd place. I like how the photographer took the picture and how it looks like your looking through someone's eyes. I think the judges places in 2nd place for the reason it caught my eye. The photographer had to good lighting and angles to take this picture probably.

Unusal and Intresting Photos

Multiple-exposure photographs of international landmarks are delightfully trippy

Christian Rhum

1. When saw his pictures I thought they were interesting but they also made me dizzy looking at them. These pictures are good but they don't wow me.

2. I honestly don't know how he took these pictures on the site it says that he didn't use post-processing.

3. I think the UT tower in Austin would look really cool taken in this form of photo.

Academic Shoot Pt. 2

My favorite photo was called "Junior Year" this has a student in a library sitting down and surrounded by act books. It looks like the student studying really hard for an assignment.

1. I like this photo because it looks a very calming and relaxing picture and I like the color of the photo the photographer used. Even though studying is very stressful this picture makes it look very relaxing.

2. The rules of photography are balance and theres a little bit of simplicity. The balance in this photo is the books and the student and the simplicity  is the student.

In my next shoot:

1. I'll take my photos in the classroom because theirs a lot of action in there and thats what I see in most pictures.

2. I would like to take photos in the art or theater class because theres a lot happening there.

3. To take good photos I will use the rules of photography and get good angles.

Academic Shoot Preview

The Story
This photo tells a story because in the picture theres a fog or smoke like thing on the table and its looks very interesting. Also this photo makes you want to find out what the students are doing and, its seems to be fun at what there doing because their smiling.

Action and Emotion
In the Photo the action in here is the liquid because its exploding in the air. The emotion in this photo is the girls are surprised and happy because the liquid exploded and their smiling.

Filling the Frame

This photo is being filled by all the people in line giving the plates of food and how all the people are crowding in.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

During 2006-2007 multiple newspapers were taken down for the editors photo shopping the pictures they took. On April 1, 2006 a newspaper used a photoshop program to replace the female ministers on the cabinet in Israel. There have ten other incidents where newspapers had to be shut down for Photoshopping like Adnan Hajj was shut down for manipulating 2 photos  during the 2006 Lebanon War.

Manipulated photos are unethical because you are purposely changing a photo from how it was original taken and if its a picture for the newspaper then it should be the original picture. Manipulated photos can also be ethical when your trying tho change a slight flaw in the picture.

This photo is unethical because the women in the photo has different teeth and you can tell difference easily.

This photo is the least edited and that makes it the least ethical.

Post Shoot Reflection

1. The challenges that I encountered was trying to find the right lighting so the picture won't be to dark also bring to find objects to take a picture that was original.

2. I  found myself thinking about how I was holding the camera to a good angle on the picture. I was also thinking about focus because I didn't want the picture to be blurry.

3. If I did this assignment again then i would probably find a better square and bowie picture.

4. I would still use the same lighting I did and the same angles in some of my pictures.

5. In my prompt photos I think I achieved two rules of composition which are the rule of thirds and lines.

6. I would be interested in doing it again because now I more camera skills so I think it will be better.

http://emmaphotojournalismblog.blogspot.com/

Emmas photos are very cheery and have a lot of spirt in them. Also I like the lighting and how the the picture matches the prompt very good.

I really liked Emmas happy picture i though the lighting and colors went really well the photo.

One thing that Emma can improve on is her angles her pictures are good but her angles were a bit cricked but overall her picture are great.

9/11 Compistion

Simplicity

This shows simplicity because the photo is focusing is the man falling.

The Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds is present in this picture because the man is at the left of the picture and the middle.

Lines

This shows lines because of the lines on the flag and how it brings a little bit of attention to the fireman. Also the it makes the picture look very sharp and clean.

Balance

This shows balance by the president holding the other man in front of him thats almost as tall as him which is balancing. Also there is fireman surrounding them which balance the people in the middle.

Framing

This photo is a good example of framing because the burnt down building is framing the fireman like an actual picture frame.

Avoiding Mergers

There is a merger obviously in this picture because the smoke looks like its coming out of the women's back and that she interfering with the background.

National Geographic

Emmanuel Coupe-Kalomiric

This is my favorite photo from national geographic because its different and its not something you see every day. I like how the bubbles are thick ice and the water is crystal clear I thought the bubbles were jellyfish. Also I like the color its a very icy blue and white and I like how the bubbles are stacked on top of each other too.

If I were to take a picture and enter it in the contest I probably take a picture of nature because nature is always an eye catcher. I just don't know what picture of nature I would take I would probably take a picture in the mountain forests. In Montrose, Colorado I would take pictures of the beautiful mountains and its amazing spruce tree forests.

Touching People

1. I think this project is very interesting because its not every day you get asked to take a picture touching a stranger.
2. I think if someone were come up to me and asked me to take a photo of me touching another person that I don't know I'd probably be a little weirded out, but I'd eventually do it.
3. A unusual but fun photo shoot would be if someone asked you to do a weird pose.
4.In my opinion I did not like the picture they didn't really amaze me, but they were fun to look at because the peoples faces were funny.

Top 40 Photos

Jack Bradley

I picked this photo because this reminds so much about my baby brother and the faces he makes when he's surprised. This photo caught my attention because of the boys face when he can hear for the first time and the lighting too. Also the color of the photo. This made the top 40 because this a very moving picture. To see the boy so surprised to hear for the first time is very moving.

 Claude P. Dettloff

I chose this picture because it reminds me of how I would do that when my dad was in the military and how the other little kids around me would do that too. I liked how the photographer caught the boy chasing his farther and the father is reaching to his son,and you can see the emotion in their faces. This made the top 40 because the story behind the photo is so powerful and emotional.

Marc Riboud

I chose this photo because I think its a very beautiful picture because the womens actions are so simple but have so much meaning to them. I liked the lighting and the color of this photo and how the photographer emphasizes the flower and the gun and blurs everything else. This made the top 40 because this photo has a very powerful message to it.

Warm Up

1. I loved the idea of flipping the photo upside down because it makes you use your imagination to see what it looks like to you you make up your own story for the photo.

2. At first i thought that the photographer just took the picture of the persons eyes and not the mouth, but then i realized that it was upside down.

Great Black and White Photographers, Part 2

Helen Levitt was a very well known photographer and film director who was born on
August 31,1913 in Brooklyn, New York. Helen dropped out of high school so she could work for a commercial photographer from there she taught her self  photography.
Helen was fascinated by chalk drawings ever since she taught kids how to draw after that she purchased a Leica camera and took pictures of children chalk drawings. Her pictures captured the ordinary life in the poor part of New York or what's happening in the city streets. Helen was known for her urban street life and children pictures.
She started to make documentary films in the late 1940s with other film directors, Helen did this for 25 years. Then she went back to taking photos. You can find her gallery at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and multiple of other galleries. Helen Levitt was an active photographer in New York for 70 years and died at the age 96 on March 29, 2009.

The Camera - History and Info.

1. The "camera obscura" effect is an optical effect and is how the camera got started. This effect works by going into a very dark room and there is a hole which is the lens which projects and focuses light of the scene onto a wall in the dark room.

2. The invention that helped the 17th century get a step closer to the creation of the modern camera was when Isaac Newton and Christian Huygens made high quality optic glass lenses.

3. The part of the first modern camera invented by Niepce was that he add film to the camera.

4. Modern digital cameras have a thing in common with Niepce's camera, light passes through the lens an then into the camera which exposes the film and Poof theres the photo you just took.

5. Instead digital cameras using old plastic film they use a digital film called CCD.

6. The difference between Auto mode and Program mode is that auto mode the camera does everything for  you you just have to take the picture. In program mode the camera still does everything for you, but you can twik a few things.

7. The portrait mode is used for taking a portrait of something (hint: thats why its called "portrait" mode) . This works by the camera blurring everything in the background so it can take the picture.

8. The sports mode is used for taking pictures that are in motion and what the camera does is that it freezes the object in motion and uses the highest shutter speed to take the picture.

9. The reason you should do a half press is so you get faster camera response, encourages better composition, and theres more control over focus.

10. This symbol is the disabled flash symbol and I would use this if I was taking pictures in the daytime or well lit places.

11. This symbol is the auto flash symbol. This symbol works if there is not enough lighting where you are taking the picture so the camera puts the auto flash on.

12. If there is to much light in your photo then your picture will look washed out.

13. If there is not enough light in your photo then your picture will be too dark.

14. A "stop" are relative measurement of light.

15. There is one stop on the planet.

16. There will be two stops on the planet if there were four suns.

17.If you are using a longer shutter speed you will have more light.

18. If your are using a shorter shutter speed then you will have less light.

19. The aperture controls how much light goes through the camera or how much it will take.

20. If you have a larger opening in the aperture then you will have more light.

First Photos:Best and Worst

Best Photos:

These are the best photos of my teammates Kendall and Melina. I picked these photos because I like the lighting in both of them. I especially like the contrast in Melina's photo (bottom) because theres a light side and a dark side of her face it makes the photo very fierce and dramatic. In Kendall's photo (top) the lighting is very calm and peaceful and I like how the light is hitting the back of her.

Worst Photos:

Now these are the not so good photos of my teammates ( their amazing models but these pictures aren't that great) . I chose this photo of  Kendall because she's in mid facial and I don't like the angle of the photo cause you can see up her nose. I chose this photo of Melina because the lighting is so plain and it just reminds me of a plain ol' school "selfie". I think these photos would better if I took them in better lighting and different angles.
