1. Alter Your Perspective
Most portraits are taken with the camera at (or around) the eye level of the subject. While this is good common sense – completely changing the angle that you shoot from can give your portrait a real WOW factorGet up high and shoot down on your subject or get as close to the ground as you can and shoot up. Either way you’ll be seeing your subject from an angle that is bound to create interest.
6. Shoot Candidly
Sometimes posed shots can look somewhat…. posed. Some people don’t look good in a posed environment and so switching to a candid type approach can work.
Photograph your subject at work, with family or doing something that they love. This will put them more at ease and you can end up getting some special shots with them reacting naturally to the situation that they are in. You might even want to grab a longer zoom lens to take you out of their immediate zone and get really paparazzi with them.
I find that this can particularly work when photographing children.
Engaging Your Subject
The first order of business is to engage your subject. This is where we all have to learn to overcome our shyness and approach people in an open and friendly manner. Be up front about who you are and what you're doing. Don't just barge into a scene with your cameras blazing. In fact, it is usually best to leave your camera in its bag when you first approach people, so as not to frighten them. Take time to engage the person in conversation, just as you would if you didn't have a camera. Remember the Golden Rule. Think about how you'd feel if someone approached you and wanted to make a photograph. How they did it would determine how you would respond.
Environmental portraits
I liked these pictures because one I'm a cheerleader myself and I like the character of the pictures and for the second photo i like it because I think it looks cool and dramatic. I picked the first photo because I do cheer and I could relate to it. I picked the second one because I think it looks cool and dramatic.
Photography self Portrait
In the first photo I like how the confetti is coming out of her head when she is "shooting" herself I thought that was very creative. I like the second picture because I like the lighting and how its black and white it looks creepy and dramatic. I chose these pictures because I thought they were creative and dramatic.
Casual Portrait
I like these photos because of how they're not looking at the camera it makes it very dramatic and think about what there looking at. I picked these for the reason i liked them.
My plan for my portrait shoot is not very well planed yet. I don't know who I will be shooting yet, but I would want to shoot outside. I would shoot outside for the natural lighting and the environment. I would probably add props or shoot from a different angle to get a successful shoot.
